Westinghouse Quad Full HD Monster Monitor Gives a Glimpse of a Gorgeous Future

With the monitor size war that we are currently seeing in Japan, one could be forgiven for thinking that the future is big in flat screen technology. I do not think that this is the case at all. Most of the massive monitors on the market are too big for regular homes and the price tags will only fall so far. Enormous panels cost a lot of money.

This concept by Westinghouse is much more interesting. Instead of building the biggest monitor on the market, they have opted for higher definition, Quad Full HD (3840 x 2160) to be precise. This 56-inch display packs in a total of 8.3 million pixels. If the $50,000 price tag scares you, you might opt for the puny 47-inch model that will slug you a lazy $10,000. The 47-incher is not so impressive in the stats department it is a Quad HD (2560 x 1440) with a less impressive 3.7 million pixels.

These won’t be much good for TV, you will have to downscale for most things, but have a look how sweet Crysis looks on this bad boy. Look at that and remember how much 50-inch old school plasmas cost 10 years ago. Screens like this are going to be the norm one day.

Japan’s getting a Mint Green PSP, you aren’t

Sony’s been quite liberal with its color options for the PSP over in Japan so far, and it doesn’t look like things are switching up much with the PSP-2000 “slim.” This time Sony’s busting out a rather appetizing “Mint Green” PSP to the expectant hordes that haven’t already gone broke buying the endless iterations already answered by the company. Of course, there’s no word or expectation of an US release, so we’re off to the art supplies shop for another set of acrylics.

Sennheiser adds IE 6, IE 7, IE 8 headphones to the Pro Series

Sennheiser has announced three pro level ear canal style headphones, the IE 6, IE 7, and top of the range IE 8. With this range you can emulate your favorite music artist as the concept behind this range is the same as the professionals use. They use dynamic transducers that cover the entire frequency range with one system which not only eliminates distortion but separates “tricky basslines and thunderous sound effects.”

With a robust and functional design all the models provide good isolation for precise reproduction (the top-of-the-range IE 8 can reach up to 26 dB of noise blocking attenuation) and have Kevlar strengthened cables.

The IE 6 is aimed at the bass enthusiast with passive attenuation up to 20 dB and a frequency response of 10 to 18,000 Hz, while the IE 7 classic has a frequency response of 10 to 19,000 Hz and attenuation up to 20 dB.

The top of the range IE 8 can can completely customize the frequency response to your listening preferences with a frequency response range from 10 to 20,000 Hz.

All the headphones have replaceable pads, transport case and a number of different ear adapters. The IE 6 and 7 will be available in March and the IE 8 in April.

Hands-on with Denon’s super-separates

If the idea of a receiver is just too lowbrow for you, check out Denon’s processor/amplifier separates, the AVP/POA-A1HDCI (’AVP’ for the processor, ‘POA’ for the amp). Six HDMI 1.3 inputs, two parallel HDMI outputs and Silicon Optix Realta video processing are some processor highlights; the amp packs in 10 channels at 150-watts. While you’re at it, why settle for a Blu-ray player when you can get a dedicated transport? That back panel picture of the DVD-2500BTCI is no prototype unit — all you get is a power cord, HDMI output, and RS-232. Spin those bits off the Blu-ray disc and send them on to the AVP-A1HDCI for decoding. Pricing is securely in the “if you have to ask…” category: $7k for the AVP-A1HDCI, $7k for the POA-A1HDCI and $1200 for the DVD-2500BTCI.

Samsung F210 Review - Pocket-lint

Pocket-lint reviews the Samsung F210 and writes, “Elsewhere on the multimedia front there is a 2 megapixel camera and Bluetooth for transferring files or images. The screen, which is incredibly small anyway isn’t the best for viewing images back or for snapping, and the biggest problem any budding photographer will find is that because the screen is letterbox rather than square you won’t actually get all of the image on the screen at any one time to see what you are shooting in full, making it pretty useless.”
