HANNSpree intro’s the Starlight Blue TV

HANNSpree has just released another unique looking product called the Starlight Blue. The novelty google-box maker, HANNSpree is offering this unusual LCD television that comes in a really nice starry night design.

The Starlight Blue features include a 150-degree viewing angle, 500:1 contrast ratio, 500 cdm2, 1024 x 768 XGA resolution, and 2 x 2 watt speakers. Like on a clear starry night, the 3D design of the Starlight Blue mimics the sky full of stars and crescent moons. The futuristic and orbital theme makes it a class of its own even the young ones would like.

The TV specs may not compare with the funky design but if you simply want a nice addition to your media room, at least in terms of design, then the Starlight Blue won’t disappoint. For a little less than $200, would you buy this one? Well..yes, maybe.

The release had been confirmed for May 9, however Verizon must have been feeling a little generous since they have added the blackberry Curve 8330 a few days ahead of schedule.

The Curve is retailing for $219.99, which comes after a $100 online discount, along with a two-year agreement. The Curve was also scheduled to arrive on retail locations as of May 12, no confirmation yet on if Verizon released it in stores early also. Now lets just hope Sprint will finally launch their Curve.

Free WiFi gaining edge?

Have you ever tried to the guess the pass key of a locked down WiFi?  As more and more travelers try to seek out free WiFi, they encounter a new trend: paid and free WiFi.  It seems, offering WiFi for free does have some benefits when used as a give and take.

The latest to try this method is Starbucks.  When AT&T takes over, they will offer 2 free hours as long as you have a Starbucks gift card.  Loyalty still gets you something these days.  Whether it is viewing an add or signing up for a loyalty program, more and more free WiFi is the benefit.  Omni Hotels is trying just this method: free WiFi if you sign up for their program or paid service if you’d rather not.  The result? Two-thirds join while one-third pays.

Denver Airport is trying the free WiFi with a mandatory advertisement at log on.  Not a bad trade off, though the Airport does censor the web to protect the young eyes that don’t wish to watch porn over your shoulder.

Airports seem to be changing over to this method of give and take as their contracts expire with WiFi service providers such as Boingo.

Trade the pew for the tube: GodTube gets cash

GodTube, a video sharing site for Christians is preparing to take their business to the next level.  According to paidContent.org, GodTube has secured $30 million in funding from hedge fund GLC Partners.  This funding augments the $2.5 they raised privately.

How popular is GodTube?  The company says it has 2 million visitors per month, compared to 138 million for YouTube last November.  Still, clearly this niche is growing.

For churches wishing to stream its services live to the net, the site offers subscriptions which adds to their advertising sales (both secular and religious).  The site also offers user-generated content and social networking feature to bring more of a community feeling to the site.  And their traffic is booming, leading the pack back in August of ‘07.  Each and every video is reviewed before posting.

Ah, the forces of good and evil at work on the web.

Marine Catcher Matches Claw for Claw

This is one of those coolest gadgets that just screams of irony. Yes, what you see in the photo is true: the Marine Catcher is one of those claw games that lets you catch a pair of claws. The water on the bottom isn’t there for a challenge, but to protect the prize: a lobster.

As far as I know, this Marine Catcher can only be found in Osaka, Japan’s Namba district. I’m not certain how much yen a player has to insert for this crustacean gamble.

In case you are wondering, the machine has a plastic bag in case you actually catch one of these lobsters. That’s good, because I wouldn’t want one of these lobsters squirming around in my backpack.

I can’t help if the lobsters will soon develop the same mentality of the squeeze toy aliens from Toy Story. I can just see these lobsters saying: “The claw, it moves. I have been chosen, I go away to a more buttery place.”

This is one of those times in my life where I am grateful to be human. I wouldn’t want to find myself in a trap, then in a claw game, then in a hot tub that kills me slowly as I let out a loud scream. I think the best way I can honor lobsters everywhere is not to take part in this ritual.

iSH2 from H2O Audio

H2O Audio has just announced that its new Natalie Coughlin Signature Series: iSH2 product is now available for sale exclusively at Apple Stores from this month onwards. Guess folks who have been hankering after an integrated waterproof headset can finally lay their hands on the iSH2 which was specially developed to work with the Apple iPod Shuffle Gen 2 and 3. Of course, it goes without saying that if you purchase this, it is also compulsory to have some sort of waterproof casing for your iPod Shuffle in the first place as water and electronics do not play nice with each other. Interestingly enough, the product was conceived by H2O Audio and developed with the assistance of world record holder and Olympic multi-medalist swimmer, Natalie Coughlin to turn the fatigue of lap and distance swim training into a music-energized experience.

According to Natalie Coughlin, Olympic Athlete and H2O Audio Product Advisor, “For years runners have benefited by adding music to their workouts and H2O Audio has now made it possible for swimmers to use that same energy and motivation to push their performance to the utmost. I have been using the iSH2 since its inception and am excited to see this offered in Apple Stores now so people everywhere can enhance their sport experience and performance.”

Some of the features on the iSH2 include :-

  • A patent pending integrated waterproof headset and case for the ipod Shuffle that works up to 10 feet underwater
  • Designed to be worn on any swim goggles or optionally with the supplied sportband
  • Fingertip access and full control of the Shuffle’s circular control pad

The Natalie Coughlin Signature Series iSH2 has been priced at $79.99 a pop. Will this actually make you quit jogging and head for the waters instead to get your weekly workout?

Make Mom blush with these gorgeous earbuds from V-MODA which are available starting today. And it’s not enough just to be beautiful, they’re also some of my favorite for sound fidelity. (I own the VIBE modaphones in Gunmetal Black, and Red Roxx. I know, I know, I’m so spoiled.)

As with the entire audio line, they’re light-weight, fit comfortably in your ear, and are noise-isolating.

VIBE Blush earbuds are now available for $101 (a nod to the landmark Highway 101 that runs past V-MODA’s Hollywood Hills headquarters) at all Apple Stores, as well as online at Shop V-MODA.
